Paul Byron graduated from the University of Michigan with honors in 1983 and from the Louisiana State University Law Center in 1986. Mr. Byron served in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps from 1986 to 1990 as a prosecutor. Following his military service, Mr. Byron returned to Central Florida and joined McGuire, Voorhis & Wells, PA where he worked in the construction litigation department. Mr. Byron subsequently served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Middle District of Florida for 10 years. Mr. Byron prosecuted complex white collar crime, including international money laundering. Mr. Byron also practiced in the civil division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, concentrating on medical malpractice defense and affirmative civil litigation. In 2001, Mr. Byron was selected to serve on the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague, Netherlands. Mr. Byron prosecuted senior political and military officials in Bosnia and Herzegovina for war crimes. Mr. Byron returned to the Department of Justice and worked in the International Section of the Asset Forfeiture and Money Laundering Unit. Mr. Byron represented the United States in a variety of international bodies, including the European Union and the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force. In connection with this work, Mr. Byron litigated in domestic and foreign jurisdictions issues related to asset forfeiture and money laundering. Mr. Byron also provided advice to foreign countries as an expert in banking supervision and regulation and helped draft anti-money laundering laws for a number of countries. Mr. Byron has tried to conclusion as lead counsel in excess of 85 jury trials and has argued 16 appeal before the United States Eleventh Circuit Court.
